Time and time again in the Bible, we are told how much God loves us and wants the best for us. God also wants us to love one another, and today's Bible verse from Isaiah 26:3 is a great example of this.
"Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it."
This seems like a simple request, but we know that in daily life it can be difficult.
For one thing, "evil" is not always so easy to recognize. It doesn't come dressed in all black and speak in a frightening voice, and we may not always be sure about what is evil and what is good.
In addition, sometimes it can be hard to choose between the "good" thing and the "evil" thing because the evil choice can be very tempting, sometimes even for reasons that we might think are justified.
Similarly, it's not always so easy to pursue peace. We often get mad at other people for good reasons and it can be hard to keep the peace in our own lives. We also have world conflicts that we may think require war and not peace.
So what are we supposed to think about this verse and how can we do God's will?
First of all, we just need to do our best. We know that we are not always going to make the right decision, but we need to try to do the right thing. If something feels wrong in your gut, chances are it's the evil choice and not the good choice. If your choice hurts someone else, than likely it's the wrong choice.
We need to make choices that help other people and spread God's love. If we do that, we'll make good choices. We also know that while God would like us to be perfect, God doesn't expect that we always will be. God forgives us when we ask for forgiveness, just as we need to forgive others in our lives.
And if we forgive others as God commands us, this will also help us to seek peace and to pursue it. Peace is so much better than conflict and peace is always worth pursuing.
If you've made some bad choices in your life or if you find yourself in a place in your life that you're not happy with, I know that if you follow this verse it will help you get to a better place. God loves you and wants you to be happy.
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
It's a great Bible verse to reflect on, and it's a great Bible verse to base your daily decisions on.
